The Cold Hard Facts of Life 7/16/09

The Cold Hard Facts of Life… i saw 3 songs. and i liked very much. i went to see a musician who never showed up for his slot-- and this band was first, inadvertently headlining. would have arrived much earlier, had i known. i could do the band much more justice if i was there longer-- but imagine Uncle Tupelo, a bit heavier on the honky tonk, lighter on the rock (subtract the guitar fuzz), more harmonies, and with a consistently happy fiddle player. (the fiddler was happy, and so was the fiddling.) the mournfulness of Jay Farrar’s vocals were also emotionally present, perfectly coupled with tight and upbeat country playing, complete with clean lead guitar. i suspect the well-delivered songs were originals. will definitely keep my eye out for these guys!
